Emergency In The Emergency Rooms Of Torrevieja Region!

Tuesday 23 September 2008 @ 12:19 pm

News - Torrevieja, Alicante Province Costa Blanca Spain

A woman , an expat , was involved in an accident with her car in San  Miguel de Salinas near Torrevieja last week and fell foul of the medical help available here in Spain .

An ambulance took her to Cabo Roig health centre for emergency treatment and despite contributing to the social security system the attendant insisted that without a SIP card she would have to pay for her treatment .

They removed the glass from the wound on her arm and charged her 105 euros .

She then tried to acquire a SIP card and was refused as she was not on the padron and had no certificate of residency  and could not do this until October .

She returned to Cabo Roig where they now said that with the social security the treatment would be free but at San Miguel they would not accept her social security .

Eventually she ended up in Torrevieja hospital where she was told that she had to pay on the spot .

Since then a San Miguel spokesperson has said that EU citizens should be entitled to emergency treatment with only a passport .

The Salinas lakes in Calpe are obviously doing very well as a provider of a habitat for wildlife .

The flamingo population is at its highest for a while , with 184 on the lake at the moment .

Ornithologists are all delighted and it shows that there is enough food to support such a population .

There is also a large population of herons , seagulls and black winged stilts   all good signs of the environment being provided and sustaining them all .
